Financial Spring Cleaning, Anyone?

By Andi Tendaji

– April means that spring is officially here. Taxes are due. Flowers begin to bloom. And, it’s National Financial Literacy Month.

Floating around our world wide web, one can find various definitions among plentiful resources in reference to financial literacy. With the core of it being, the knowledge and understanding of personal finance. However, financial literacy can mean different things for different folks.

During the month of April it’s easy to find “free” resources and even challenges on; how to budget, how to save, how to eliminate date and even how to create side hustles. Be it in five ways or 10 days, I found myself uncertain on how to move forward when my lifestyle didn’t align with 7 days out of a 10 day challenge.

So, I began to search for a resemblance in financial literacy resources. I sought out voices that spoke directly to me; a Black Woman in America who was brought up in a community where “Financial Literacy” was not a topic of discussion.

With April being “Financial Literacy Month” I felt it was the perfect time to share the top voices who’ve collectively motivated my financial journey, assisting me with eliminating $20K plus in debt and raising my credit score 300 plus points.
